Editor,
I am a Rwandan, living in North America and I’ve not been able to come home for the last five years. However I’ve managed to keep myself updated on almost all aspects of life in Rwanda.
While its a well known fact that Rwanda has improved in many ways as far as development is concerned, this however doesn’t apply to the music industry.
I think that some of our young artists are not learning from our neighbors Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania; funny enough, they tend to learn from USA.
Why don’t the artists sing in the mother tongue ? Ask yourself why guys like Chameleon or Bobi Wine are popular all over East Africa; if you listen carefully to their songs you’ll understand why they have created such huge a fan base. It’s because they tell real
East African stories about daily life, they are genuine and they are creative.
I have come across so many names of Rwandan artists in the paper but when I try to find their songs on YouTube, or anywhere online, it’s impossible. I believe posting your music online is so important in creating a fan base.
What happened to kigalishow.com, which used to keep me abreast with all the local events?
I wonder what Ben Rutabana is up to, how about Masamba? By the way what is the Ministry of Youth doing to improve our music industry?
Here are some tips: Sing in a language you really know, make your song educative, make a video for each song you release, be creative, work hard , stay away from drugs and don’t look cheap, try to dress appropriately
