NATIONAL league champions APR have lined up a friendly game against Burundi giants Vital’O. The fixture scheduled for Wednesday will be played at Amahoro stadium, two days before the 2009-10 league kick-off.
The army side, fresh from wining the pre-season tournament, will be using the game as a final build up to the league.
"With all the new signings we have, we need more games to gel so the friendly will certainly help us with that,” APR’s Dutch tactician Erik Paske said.
"It will also be a good ground for those players who missed the pre-season tournament to get some games under their belt before the new season,”
Among players who missed the league curtain raiser include the APR twins; Mbuyu and Kabange Twite.
Like APR, Vital’O has dominated the sport in Burundi. The team has won a record 12 league titles.
The teams could also be potential opponents when the draws of next year’s Africa Champions League are made later this year.
Early this month, APR lifted the Pre-season football title after walloping SC Kiyovu 4-1.
On top of domestic and regional tournaments like the league, Peace Cup and Cecafa Cup, APR have their eyes fixed on reaching the group stage of the CAF Champions League, Africa’s premier club championship.
APR qualified for the lucrative competition after piping Atraco to last season’s league title.
