SDV TRANSAMI, the leading clearing agent in the country has registered a 50 percent decline in business. The drop has been attributed to the global financial crisis.

In the first half of this year, 1,351 containers have been cleared compared to 2,071 container cleared the same period last year.

"In the same period last year, our staff were very busy, unlike this year where they are relaxed with the park yard almost empty,” said Eric Nsengimana, SDV TRANSAMI’s Operations manager.

Nsengimana, said that containers of different goods used to come in bulk but the move is no more. Last year, about 20 containers were cleared per day, today they have been reduced to 10 containers.

The officials said that inland container depot for SDV used to handle 15 to 20 trucks per day but this has reduced to between 8 and 12 trucks.

It’s said that the decline in cargo reached its peak in February this year and it negatively affected the whole clearing business chain.

Recently also Rwanda bonded warehouses (Magerwa) announced a decline in car imports.

According to an official in Magerwa, Aimable Sekanyana, there has been a decline in car imports and even the ones that came in have stayed for months because owners failed to clear them a thing that has never happened before.

"Before cars used to stay for seven days but some cars have been in the yard for six months,” Sekanyana said. SDV International Logistics is a worldwide group, specialized in international freight forwarding, transportation and logistics.
