A.Y

This Sunday’s performing artist for the eviction night is famed hip-hop and Bongo flava songster A.Y.

Ambwene A. Yessayah, a.k.a A.Y, who is born to a Rwandan mother and Tanzania father, is arguably  among East Africa’s best artists. And his reconciliatory tone has earned him stardom across the continent.

A.Y was nominated for a Channel O Music Video award, and for the MTV Africa Music award. The ‘Ma dame watafutaji’ singer was also nominated for the Kora Awards in South Africa.

He joined the music industry in 1996, in a Tanzanian rap group made up of three boys: Benjamin Gamba a.k,a Buff G, Adam a.k.a Snare and himself.

A.Y separated from the group in 2002 to concentrate as a solo artist. His popular tracks, include; ‘Sifa Hiyo’, ‘Mademu Watafutaji’, ‘Nipe Nikupe’, and ‘Wote’.

Meanwhile, A.Y is a cousin to Rwanda’s contestant in the concluding Tusker Project Fame 3, taking place in Kenya. It looks like music is a gene in their family.
