AMAVUBI forward Saidi Abedi Makasi will not play in Rwanda’s crucial away 2010 World Cup/ Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Algeria.

The Sunday clash will be played at Blida’s Tchaker Stadium-50km southeast of Algiers.

A reliable source from the Amavubi Camp yesterday confirmed that the Moroccan based striker aggravated a knee injury during the team’s final training session in Kigali and will now miss the crunch tie which will go a long way in deciding if Rwanda can snatch a CAN slot after a poor showing in the third and final qualifying round. 

Makasi’s injury means that the number of professionals on the team is down to seven; team captain Hamad Ndikumana, Edwin Ouon, Louis Aniweta, Jean Paul Eale Lutula, Saddou Boubakary, Didier Kouin Kapet and Cyrille Agnini Bile Kouame.

The home-based players include Jean Claude Ndoli, Jean Luc Ndayishimiye ‘Bakame’, Patrick Rutayisire, Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Bosco Uwacu, Aimable Rucogoza, Elias Ntaganda, Jean Baptist Mugiraneza, Jean Bosco Ngaboyisibo, Patrick Mafisango and Jimmy Gatete.

While Rwanda hustle to keep their CAN hopes alive, Algeria know that victory will take them closer to a slot at next year’s World Cup.

The North African football federation has stopped at nothing to make sure that the players play their hearts out after doubling their cash bonuses should they win the tie.

According to elmoudjahid.com, each Fennecs player will pocket a whooping Rwf166m should they win Sunday’s tie.
Algeria tops the group with 10 points. African champions Egypt are second on seven points, three more than Zambia and six clear of Rwanda.

The Algeria-Amavubi clash will be preceded by the Egypt against Zambia tie on Saturday.
