RUBAVU – Residents who were left homeless after heavy rains destroyed their houses have received assorted relief items from different donors. According to the Mayor, Pierre Twagirayezu, the district has received tents, blankets, soap, and tonnes of maize and beans meant for the victims.

According to the Mayor, Pierre Twagirayezu, the district has received tents, blankets, soap, and tonnes of maize and beans meant for the victims.
Over 50 houses and hundreds of hectors of crops were destroyed by the rains last week.
"One of the donors has given us foodstuffs which might sustain the victims for some time, we expect more support from the Local government ministry,” Twagirayezu said.
Separately, the Rwanda Red Cross Western Province coordinator, Jean Bosco Musana, said that they have prepared other material support for the victims.
"Blankets, soap, towels, and other sanitation facilities are already available and we are distributing them today [Wednesday]. The problem is that the number of victims has increased but, they will share the available support,” Musana said.
Meanwhile, legislators who included Alfred Rwasa, Francoise Mukayisenga and Anne Marie Musabyimana, yesterday visited the district in order to comfort the victims.
"We have just come to show you that you’re not alone in the midst of all this catastrophes, we promise advocacy for more support,” MP Mukayisenga told the residents.
