KAYONZA - A teenage mother who dumped her newly born baby boy in the bush went through a citizen arrest and was handed over to Mukarange Police Station in Kayonza District.

Delphine Umulisa, 19, had delivered a healthy baby at Rwinkwavu Hospital, a couple of days ago.

Fearing a negative reaction from her parents, she decided to dump the baby in the bush, according to sources. She was arrested while escaping.

This happened in Nyagatovu in Kayonza district. "The girl told me that she abandoned the baby because she could not face her parents, after having an unplanned pregnancy.

She abandoned the baby in a bush near the road so that a well wisher could pick it,” said an eye witness who did not wish to be named.

The Nyagatovu cell Executive Secretary, Jean Bosco Ruhezamihigo, confirmed the incident.

Other sources said Umulisa and her baby were later transferred to Mukarange Health Centre for medical examination under police watch.
