The President of the High Court, Judge Johnson Busingye has praised the reforms that are being undertaken by the judiciary.

Speaking during a farewell party organised in honour of the court staff being transferred to the Supreme Court and other institutions within the judiciary, Busingye said that the image of justice is improving despite existing criticism and challenges.

The court chief cited the mobile group of judges who have dispensed off a significant number of cases and those who have been transferred to rural courts, as one key indication that the sector is growing.

"We have an inspection of courts which is not anywhere in this region, there were many things that needed reform when we begun this journey of judicial reforms, and I have seen many reforms effected,” Busingye said.

Busingye called upon the judges to stay focused and forge ahead with the country’s development pace.

In the transfers, three judges were elevated to the Supreme Court, four promoted to the High Court while two were named court inspectors and registrar of the high court respectively.

Those promoted to the Supreme Court are the first batch to be elevated to the Court since judicial reforms began in 2004.
