Mozambique-Despite making the final on two occasions (1986 and 2003), the title still eludes them.
In 2005, the team finished second runners up before dropping to fourth in 2007.

But with a Fiba-world ranking of 37, Mozambique remain strong contenders to make the quarter-finals from Group A- Senegal, South Africa, Mauritius, Cameroon and hosts Madagascar.

Guinea-The West Africans hosted the first edition of the championship back in 1966 and did not disappoint as they finished first runners up to United Arab Republic.

But that was their first and last notable performance. The team has struggled to make an impact since.

Rwanda will fancy their chances against Guinea; one of six teams in Group B. 

Nigeria- As the jump-ball date for the 21st FIBA Africa Championship for Women draws closer, the 2003 and 2005 champions have dropped two players from their 15-man team.

Ijeoma Uchendu and Ima-obong Ekebo were dropped from the D’Tigress team but head coach Ayo Bakare says the pair still has age on their side and should be ready for the big occasion in future.

The team now includes six foreign-based and sevenhome-based players.

Nigeria is drawn in Group B alongside defending champions Mali, Angola, Guinea, Tunisia and first timers Rwanda.
