KAYONZA - There is shortage of decent business premises in Kayonza town, traders have said.

Speaking at a meeting of the local business community last week,  Patrick Ndayiragije, a local businessman, said most of the structures in town are poorly constructed.

"We are here to forge a way forward in development activities… especially the infrastructure of this town. It is for instance very hard to get premises in which to conduct business,” Ndayiragije said.

The traders appealed to bank officials, to get them loans to develop the required infrastructure.

"We need more financial support in form of loans to develop the town. I hope the bank officials here today, will come to terms with us,” he emphasized.

Officials from Bank of Kigali (BK) who were present at the meeting promised businesspersons full cooperation.
Alongside lack of office space, town residents have complained of water scarcity.

According to residents, people walk long distances to fetch water.

Regina Nyirasafari, officer in charge of water at the district acknowledged the scarcity of water in the district, saying there is great need to extend water sources nearer to residents.

"Though we are relatively well off than our neighbors, it is imperative that we start thinking about ways to increase the supply of water in the villages.”

The district’s Executive Secretary, Samuel Kiwanuka, also reiterated the need to increase water sources across the district.

"We really experience serious water crisis once in a while, especially when there is a prolonged dry spell.” he said.
