FERWAFA have called upon a German coach Andreas Spier to handle Rwanda’s junior national women football team ahead of this month’s 2011 Fifa U-20 World Cup qualifier against Uganda.

The October 24 tie will be held in Uganda’s Nakivubo stadium.

"Spier has been helpful to the youth teams so we have no doubt that he will do a good job with the women,” the local football governing body (Ferwafa)’s vice president Veduste Kayiranga said.

The team enters camp next Wednesday and will initially be under the tutelage of Grace Nyirawumuntu (AS Kigali women coach) and Innocent Seninga.

The winner between Uganda and Rwanda will go on to play Zambia which got a bye in the first round.

Other countries which got byes include; Botswana, Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Namibia, Nigeria, RD Congo, South Africa, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.

Sixteen teams will compete at the World Cup finals where two-time defending world champions Germany are automatic qualifiers as hosts.

In a related development, Uganda football federation (Fufa) has released a squad of 41 women footballers picked from schools and clubs across the country to start training for the qualifier.
