The verdict in the appeal made by the former State Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Munyanganizi Bikoro that was supposed to be handed down yesterday has been postponed to October 9.

Bikoro, who is also a former Member of Parliament, filed the appeal against a two-year jail sentence by a court after it found him guilty of corruption.

His two co-accused also lodged an appeal.
Harrison Mutabazi, the presiding judge in the trial taking place at the Nyarugenge Intermediate Court, ordered defence lawyers and prosecution to shed more light on the evidence that was not presented during the previous hearing.

"After scrutinising the file, I have found that there were elements you both never talked about, somewhere it is indicated that one of you bought tiles on the local market other than those bought in Spain but nobody explained that to the court last time,” Mutabazi said.

He asked the defendants to explain the outstanding issues, but the accused declined arguing they had only come to Court to hear the verdict and were not prepared.
