THREE Burundian volleyball teams are part of nine clubs battling for this year’s Rutsindura Memorial trophy.
Amicale de Bujumbura, Rukinzo and Rumuli were expected in the country last evening ahead of this morning’s draws in Huye.
Local clubs in the fray include new Coupe du Rwanda Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC), APR, National University of Rwanda (UNR), Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), Petit Seminaire de Butare (PSB) and Groupe Scolaire Officiale de Butare (GSOB) among others.
APR have revenge high on their agenda after last Sunday’s shocking defeat in the Coupe du Rwanda. The army-side were stunned with a 1-3 set defeat against KVC.
The ladies’s fray will also see stiff competition from rivals Rwanda Revenue Authority and APR.
The annual event is held in memory of Alphonse Rutsindura, a former coach of the national women volleyball team, who was killed in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
