THE early bird catches the worm. Assuming the phrase holds water, good things lie ahead for the national cricket team, the first to touch down in Malawi; the hosts for this year’s ICC World Cricket League Division 3 tournament.
The team arrived Thursday evening and spent yesterday acclimatizing to the wickets.
"The wickets and grounds are not any different from the ones in South Africa so we expect a good tournament,” the team’s delegation head Charles Haba told Times Sport on phone.
After weeks of preparation, the team starts their campaign this morning when they take on Gambia. In the other day’s games, Sierra Leone plays Morocco while Lesotho face tournament hosts Malawi.
Meanwhile, the on-going schools cricket tournament has been boosted with a Rwf2.3m cash package from Caisse Sociale.
The company becomes the second sponsor of the tournament after Fina Bank who parted with Frw0.6m.
