GICUMBI – Members of the Private Sector Federation (PSF), nursery and primary school teachers in different cells of Gicumbi District, yesterday elected their representatives to the Cell Advisory Council.

The early morning elections concluded as early as 9.00 am for members of the PSF, while those for teacher’s representatives, dragged on till midday.  One candidate was supposed to be elected for each of the categories.

At polling stations of Gacurabwenge and Gisuna Cell of Byumba Sector, which were visited by The New Times, the elections were peaceful.

"Many members of the private sector in each cell turned up to elect their representatives as early as 7.00 am, which is the official starting time.

By 8.00 am, Gacurabwenge Cell had completed electing their representative and the voters had gone back to carry out their daily businesses,” a representative of the National Electoral Commission, Marine Dusabimana, who presided over the exercise said.  

A total of 42 members of the PSF turned up to elect their representative at Gacurabwenge Cell.

Charles Nshimiyimana was elected unopposed with 37 votes, while five voters did not participate in the elections.

At Gisuna Cell, all the 42 members of the private sector who turned up for elections unanimously voted unopposed Marie Claire Dukuzimana, as their representative.

The elections for teachers’ representatives around Byumba town, took place at Inyange Primary School.

"Most members of the PSF  around Cells of Byumba Sector preferred fielding one candidate to represent them,” an election official at Gisuna Cell Maxime Simango said.
The elections were carried out through secret ballot.
