Rubayita (R) has promised an improved performance in the upcoming Rutsindura Memorial tournament.

APR’s volleyball team captain Cesar Rubayita has finally spoken out on his side’s shocking defeat in last Sunday’s Coupe du Rwanda final.

The volleyball giants were ambushed by a determined Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) side as they succumbed to a 3-1 set defeat at Amahoro Indoor stadium.

The setter had initially blamed the suspension of Coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye for the loss but during yesterday’s interview, he blamed complacency.

"We (players) are to blame for the loss. Our attitude before and throughout the game was poor,” the 26-year-old said.

"We thought it would be a straight forward victory and did not play to our full potential. Actually some players were confident we would win in straight sets since KVC had not beaten us in over two years.”

"On behalf of the players, I would like to apologize to the fans who we let down and promise to correct our mistakes in the Rutsindura memorial tournament.”

Rutsindura is an annual tournament held in memory of Alphonse Rutsindura, a former coach of the national women volleyball team, who was killed in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
