The Director of Gisakura Tea Factory, Narcisse Bucyana, has been arrested on alleged corruption and abuse of office.

His arrest is the latest in the string of arrests of top government officials and heads of state-owned parastatals charged with embezzlement, corruption and mismanagement of public offices.

Sources said that Bucyana was arrested after the Board of Directors of the factory tipped off the prosecution on alleged mass irregularities in tenders at the factory.

The prosecution investigated the allegations which led to the arrest of Bucyana.

"One of the accusations is that he registered his personal vehicle into another person’s names and illegally used it in company business as a way diverting money to his account,” the source said.

Bucyana is also accused of having forged a number of pro-forma invoices and violated tender procedures.

When contacted, the Prosecutor General Martin Ngoga, confirmed the arrest and said that Bucyana has been paraded before courts of law.
