NYAKINAMA - Twenty personnel of Rwanda Defense Forces have completed a five -day training on the promotion of international security. The training which was held at Rwanda Military Academy- Nyakinama, was conducted by lecturers from the Netherlands Defense Academy.

The training which was held at Rwanda Military Academy- Nyakinama, was conducted by lecturers from the Netherlands Defense Academy.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the former Deputy Force Commander of the hybrid UN-AU under the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Maj. Gen Karenzi Karake, noted that the course has opened the imagination of the participants.
He said it had empowered them to be better officers in terms of international security especially at a time when the RDF is involved in international peacekeeping missions.
Karenzi added that the training has not only empowered the RDF, but is a hallmark in terms of cooperation between the two countries.
Harry Kirkels, the head of the delegation conducting the training said that topics covered included; international security, international law, and the involvement of the media in international peacekeeping operations.
The international security course package covered topics on security policies of various countries, the role of international organizations in international security and European security architect and Africa.
The Dutch mission in Rwanda was represented by Martin Pathoven.
With over 3000 troops deployed in the volatile eastern Sudanese region of Darfur, Rwanda is the world’s 6th largest peacekeeping troop contributor.
