MUHANGA - The Association of Scouts in Rwanda (ASR) has finally elected a new National Advisory Council. The elections were held seven months after the old committee ended its mandate. The contentious elections were held last Sunday at St. Charles Center Gahogo, in Nyamabuye sector, by members of the National General Assembly.

The contentious elections were held last Sunday at St. Charles Center Gahogo, in Nyamabuye sector, by members of the National General Assembly.
In the elections, Henri Habimana was elected the association’s president, Jovani Dusabimana, vice president, while Aime Albertine Batamuliza, was voted secretary. Two councilors, Alice Impano and Beniot Munyanyindi were also elected.
The new committee was subsequently sworn-in.
Speaking after the elections, Jean Paul Mushaija, the ASR legal representative commended the exercise as a step in the right direction.
"Scouts have made a historical election which will pave way to sorting out internal problems, and establish a strong team aimed at building the scouting community towards national development,” he said.
In separate interviews, the association members accused the previous committee of blocking new elections after their term ended on March 23 this year.
