TEN-time league champions APR play Amagaju in the first of two semi-finals of the on-going Pre-season tournament this afternoon at Amahoro Stadium.

The draws held yesterday at Ferwafa head quarters in Remera saw APR draw Amagaju while SC Kiyovu take on Etincelles in the other semi-final at Nyamirambo stadium.

APR know that they can’t afford a patchy display against the Western Province side who progressed to the semi-finals at the expense of league heavyweights Rayon Sport and Marines.

The military side stormed the semis courtesy of an Abbas Rassou penalty against Police on Sunday. The former Olympique Khouribga forward rejoined Erik Paske’s side for a second spell last week.

The striker first joined the club in 2005 on a two-year contract. During his time at the club, he won five titles; two league titles, Cecafa/Kagame Cup, Amahoro Cup and Lotto Cup.

The Etincelles-Kiyovu also promises to be a tough contest considering the fact that both teams have strengthened their squads with a couple of new signings.

Like Amagaju, Etincelles also raised eyebrows after knocking out Mukura and Atraco in Group B.

At the end of the tournament, the winners get to pocket Rwf5m, losing finalists Rwf3m while the third and fourth teams settle for Rwf1.5m and Rwf1m respectively courtesy of the Ministry of Sports and Culture.

The tournament is a curtain raiser for the league which kicks off October 17.
