Dieudonne Disi hopes to build on Sunday’s spectacular race when he competes in the Franco-phone Games which kicked off last Wednesday in Beirut, Lebanon.
The national ace athlete won silver after finishing second in the 32nd Paris-Versailles race (16 km) in France.
The 29-year-old clocked 48minutes and one second, one minute and 56 seconds adrift of Morocco’s Mohamed El Hachimi.
Third place was claimed by Jairus Chanchima of Kenya.
Disi was using the race as a build-up for the Games where he will be up to defend his 10,000m gold medal on Thursday.
The athlete is also looking to go a notch better in the 5,000m where he claimed bronze four years ago.
Rwanda’s athletics team in Beirut includes Godfrey Rutayisire (5,000m), Felix Ntirenganya (marathon), Jeanne d’Arc Uwamahoro (800m), Claudette Mukasakindi (5,000m) and Jacqueline Murekatete (5,000m).
The country’s rising star Sylvain Rukundo (10,000m) is the major omission from the side.
According to Rwanda’s athletics coach Eric Karasira, Rukundo is currently in Italy preparing for next month’s Birmingham half marathon championship.
The championship is set for October 11.
