Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) ended their two-year trophy drought when they overran old-rivals APR in yesterday’s Coupe du Rwanda final at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

The fallen giants made the most of APR’s internal wrangles to win the final 3-1 (25-22, 25-23 21-25, 25-23).

KVC’s Eric Nsabimana ‘machine’ was the star of the match with his unstoppable spikes and solid blocks which left APR short of ideas.

Trailing by two sets, APR which was managed by stand in Coach Paul Bitok pulled a set back (25-21) but couldn’t sustain that display as they lost the fourth set 23-25.

After the final, APR captain Cesar Rubayita blamed the defeat on the suspension of their coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye.

Ndayikengurukiye was suspended by the club management on Friday after learning that he had featured for Nonas (a team comprising of former national team players).

But it was not all gloom for the army side as the ladies saw off Rwanda Revenue Authority 2-1 to retain the title.

The winners in both categories walked away with Rwf0.3m while the first and second runners-up received Rwf0.2m and Rwf0.1m courtesy of Magerwa. and Rwanda Development Bank (BRD).

Prime Minister Bernard Makuza was part of the big crowd that graced the final.
