BUGESERA/RWAMAGANA - The Mayor of Rwamagana District, Valens Ntezirembo, has warned parents against neglecting their parental responsibilities, saying it exposes children to abuse.

"Parents have to be vigilant in ensuring that their children don’t fall prey to tendencies such as loitering.

This is because in the event that something terrible happens to them the authorities will hold parents squarely responsible,” he said.

He was yesterday addressing youth who had completed a three-day workshop on HIV prevention and family planning.

The workshop was organised by an international NGO Population Services International (PSI) and Des Eglise Pour la Promotion de la Sante et Development (EESD),targeting youth selected from Rwamagana and Bugesera districts.

"Children have to develop critical thinking to firmly say no to their abusers.

We also intend to start a circumcision program in the near future, as a tool in AIDS prevention,” said the PSI representative Guillaume Bakadi Mukenge.
