HUYE - Gacaca courts in the district have resolved to complete all the remaining cases before them by the end of October this year, which they said will be achieved by increasing trial days.

In a meeting with Domitille Mukantaganzwa, the Executive Secretary of the National Gacaca Courts, the traditional judges noted that there has been a significant increase of Genocide related cases emanating from the new information gathering process in some areas of the district.

"We were remaining with only 23 cases but after the new information gathering process on Genocide related crimes took effect, 267 new cases have come up,” said Emile Munyemfura, the President of Rukara Gacaca Court within the Huye sector.

Mukantaganzwa told the traditional judges that the new information gathering process should not be seen as an obstacle, but a way to provide fair justice.

"We need to meet the set deadline, but we should not compromise fairness and quality. You should always strive to achieve the goals for which Gacaca was established regardless of the time limit,” she said.
