CECAFA needs $50,000 (Rwf28.5m) to successfully organise this year’s Senior Challenge Cup. The tournament is scheduled for November 28 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The body’s media officer Finny Keshi on Friday said that the search for a sponsor was still going on.

"The search is still on but we hope to get a sponsor before the end of next month (October),” he said.

The sum is meant to cater for the teams’ air-tickets, accommodation and allowances for officials.

Cecafa is reportedly locked in talks with an Arab company based in Kampala to fund the two-week tournament but the sponsor is insisting on shifting the tournament to Kampala.

"If we are left with no choice, then we shall have to comply with the sponsor’s wishes,” Cecafa’s Secretary General Nicholas Musonye said.

For now, Kenya will host the championship for the first time since 1994 when Tanzania beat Uganda 4-3 on penalties to lift the Cup after a 2-2 stalemate in normal time.

The matches will be staged in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.
