The current Burundian Ambassador to Rwanda, Serge Karonkano is doing the final rounds of bidding farewell to top government officials as his mandate comes to an end.

After his recent meeting with Prime Minister Bernard Makuza, the ambassador met with the Speaker of the Lower Chamber of Parliament Rose Mukantabana.

A statement released by parliament after the meeting with Karonkano reported that the diplomat hailed the relations between Rwanda and Burundi.

It also quotes Karonkano as saying that both countries have for long enjoyed good relations and praised Rwanda’s success in education, health, gender equality, tourism, agriculture and infrastructure, among others.

During his meeting with the Speaker, the Burundian envoy also said that the two sister countries have signed a number of cooperation treaties in the fields of infrastructure including the railway project in the pipeline.

In her address to Karonkano, Mukantabana re-affirmed that Rwanda will continue to support all partnership projects and treaties between the two countries.

She particularly said that the cooperation between the two parliaments will be boosted.

Karonkano was appointed the Burundian Ambassador to Rwanda in September 2006 and during his mandate, he partly served as the Dean of African Ambassadors to Rwanda.
