THE national athletics federation Secretary General Apollinaire Munyangoga is in hot water after reports that he embezzled over Rwf0.7m collected from concerts held during the Kigali International Marathon.

But the official who is also a lecturer at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) claims that he is to blame not because he actually stole the money but simply because he was the official in charge of finance.

"The money was definitely stolen by those who sold concert tickets but since I was in charge of the whole arrangement, I take full responsibility,” he added.

But that has not stopped the federation head Jean Paul Munyandamutsa from blasting Munyangoga insisting that he is guilty.

"He had almost gotten away with it had it not been for a recent evaluation by a committee which was set up to look into how the funds were utilized,” Munyandamutsa fumed.
Munyandamutsa added that after paying the money, Munyangoga will be asked to resign.

"He has accepted to refund the sum after which he will be asked to resign.”

About Rwf3.48m was raised from the concerts but Munyangoga only presented Rwf 2.71m.
