Editor,
I want to thank Mr. Edwin Musoni for his accurate commentary published in the 15th Sept 2009 New Times issue. I’m happy to read that there has been a tremendous progress in terms of media ethics in Rwanda as compared to yesteryear.
I hope your article touched other media practitioners who read it. I hope the journalists out there will try to use other angles to get the best story.
Thanks for disclosing to readers the issue of sources who attempt to manipulate journalists all the time.
It is always wise to keep cool in a situation where you realise that you are being taken for a ride. I wish to talk about "Giti” (money given to journalists by sources for various reasons.
In Uganda’s media we call it "Payola”. When a journalist takes that money and it is known by his or her colleagues, they call that reporter a bogus fellow who has made the wrong decision where journalistic ethics are concerned.
Cheers Musoni. Keep fighting the good fight without the need for "giti”.
