HUYE - The Governor of the Western Province has urged students from the National University of Rwanda to participate actively in the development of their districts.

Celestin Kabahizi, made the call on Saturday while addressing students from the Province in a meeting that was held at the National University of Rwanda.

"If you want to be stakeholders of your respective districts, you have to play an active role in their development agenda”, the Governor said.

"Go and check through their action plans and see if you can offer a helping hand,” he advised.

The Mayor of Rusizi District, Fabien Sindayiheba, told students that authorities are ready to involve them in different activities in the district.

He however, said that the district does not have the financial capacity to fund all projects presented by students.

"We really value your proposed projects but we are constrained financially”, he noted.

Students welcomed the governor’s visit which they referred to as important and promising.

"The visit shows us that our ideas are welcome and capabilities recognized”, said Jean Paul Kaberaho, a student from Nyabihu district.

"The visit by the Governor is a motivation to students who often questioned the significance of district-based students associations,” said Athanase Mbyayingabo, the leader of Rusizi District Students’ Association.
