GISAGARA - Over Rwf 13 million was collected over the weekend in support of the 9-Year Basic Education programme, during a meeting that brought together residents.

The meeting was organized in order to raise funds for the construction of classrooms and the purchase of school equipment.

District Mayor, Leandre Karekezi, said that by January 2010, the district will have completed the construction of all needed classrooms.

"The population has been sensitized on the matter and is aware of its importance. We are confident that the classrooms will be available by the beginning of the year”, he said.

Gisagara district plans to build 133 classrooms equipped with 3,400 desks and 306 washrooms.

So far, local residents have been able to mobilise piles of bricks, sand and stones in preparation for the construction work.
