Atraco has earmarked Rwf 80m for uniforms to distinguish its members from other operators.
Speaking to The New Times, the president of the commuter transporters association, Col. (rtd) Ludovic Dodo Twahirwa said that the move was motivated by the fact that sometimes impostors tarnish the association’s image.
"The measure will help passengers deal with properly identified Atraco members instead of some wrong characters who have given disservice to passengers under the guise of being members of our association,” Twahirwa said.
He noted that the situation mainly occurs during the evening rush; pointing out that sometimes conductors claim to be members of the association with personal intentions of indulging in wrongful acts like theft, which is later blamed on the association.
Further, he said the plan will also improve the quality of services offered based on easing the identification process of the association’s service providers.
"As a measure to ensure proper hygiene, drivers and conductors will be entitled to two pairs of the uniform,” he stressed.
The two will have different uniforms to clearly identify them.
Although the official could not tell exactly when this will be implemented, he pointed out that as soon as the manufacturer produces the uniforms.
