SIX clubs have confirmed participation in next month’s Rugby 10-aside tournament. The one-day event, scheduled for November 3 will attract Buffaloes, Sharks, Lion de fer, Simba, Grizzlies and Puma.
Apart from using the tourney to officially crown 2009 champions-Buffaloes, the vice President of the National Rugby Federation Gerald Nsenga said the event will help clubs prepare for the Hima 10-aside tournament slated for November 8-10 at Kampala’s Kyadondo rugby grounds.
"This event (10-aside) was originally meant to officially crown Buffaloes for winning last year’s rugby trophy, but we will also use it as a preparation ground for the Hima 10-aside.”Nsenga said.
Champions Remera Buffaloes will be Rwanda’s flag bearers in Kampala.
For the past two years, Rwanda’s representatives in the tournament have been the league champions, which give Buffaloes an automatic ticket to the event, but according to Nsenga, Sharks who finished second can take part if they have the resources to.
Buffaloes finished the season with 33 points, eight clear of Sharks.
Last year, Buffaloes reached the semi-finals of the Shield Cup only to be ejected by Uganda’s Impis.
