Ngabo Medard Popularly known as Meddy was born twenty years ago in Burundi where he had his nursery school education.
He then moved to St. Joseph Primary school in Rwanda after the war in the country.
After completing primary school, Meddy proceeded to high school at La Colombiere from where he completed last year with a certificate in Maths/physics section. Meddy’s music career started at the tender age of six.
He was in the Sunday school choir at his church. When at La Colombiere, with his friends, they formed a music group which they called ‘Justified’.
They were four in the group and included The Ben, Nicola and Lick who all are celebrities in Rwanda. The Ben is a celebrated music artist while Nicola and Lick are producers. Justified’s music was largely underground and most of their music was gospel.
It wasn’t a while before the group disintegrated due to some of the members completing school. It was then that Meddy went solo.
His breakthrough came in 2008 when he released ‘ngirir’ubuntu’ which enjoyed instant success and from then he started taking his music serious. ‘Akaramata’ almost immediately followed his debut single and took the local charts by storm.
After completing school, he went to the studio and had enough time to concentrate on what he loves doing.
In April this year, he released ‘Amayobera’, a song that is still popular amongst Rwandans in the country and abroad.
In spite of his young age, Meddy is at the top of his game and he is an artist that many upcoming young artists look up to for inspiration.
He is at the moment working on videos of his hit singles and promises to release them latest the end of next month. He is also in the studio working on his debut album which he plans to launch early next year.
A cross-section of Rwandans claim that Meddy, The Ben and Tom Close have a similar style of music and the same voice and that it is hard to distinguish them.
However, he says that there is a big difference between their style of music saying the techniques and messages and also the voices are very different.
Apart from music, Meddy’s hobbies include swimming and hanging out with friends. He never takes alcohol and rarely goes clubbing. He is a big fan of Usher Raymond and Justin Timberlake’s music and also the late Michael Jackson.
Lastly on the personal front, Meddy says he is single and still in the lookout though he is not very eager to get a companion as he wants to concentrate on his music and studies which he will continue with at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) next year.
