Allow me react to a letter entitled "My name should not be a problem” by someone who did not mention his name, which appeared in The New times of Wednesday, 16th of September 2009.

That letter took me twenty years back. It was in 1988 that I first read Shakespeare’s Lyrical Tale of   "Star –Crossed” Lovers: ROMEO AND JULIET .

Those who read the play will member well the question that JULIET put to ROMEO;”What is in a name”? She went further and said that "That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”, and ends the line by saying that "a name is an artificial and meaningless convention”.

Therefore, my take on that letter, is that, the author of that letter is actually educating Rwandans not to waste their time on petty things like names.

It is the beginning of segregation and it does not need a genius to know the negative effects of segregation of any kind.

Lastly, names are accidentals, being a Rwandan is what matters regardless of which names that our parents named us.
