KICUKIRO - Another District Executive Secretary has been arrested for allegedly awarding tenders illegally and mismanaging district funds.

According to police spokesman Supt. Eric Kayiranga, Emmanuel Ruziga of Kicukiro illegally awarded two tenders without following the required procedures.

"He is alleged to have illegally awarded tenders worth Rwf 17m and also illegally renewed a contract of one of the district employees which made the district lose another Rwf 5 million,” said Kayiranga.

The tenders Ruziga is alleged to have illegally awarded were for the supply of facilities for the kick-starting of Vision 2020 Umurenge in Kicukiro District.

Other charges levelled against Ruziga include illegal creation and setting up of gardens around the airport road which did not follow the required tendering procedures.

"We have produced him before the prosecution,” said Kayiranga.

The arrest of Ruziga is the latest of government officials arrested and charged for embezzling or misusing public funds.
The arrest of Ruziga follows that of the Mayor of Nyagatare District, Robert Kashemeza, his deputy in charge of social affairs, Immaculée Mukabahizi, Rwempasha Sector Executive Secretary, Claude Mushabe and the dean of the faculty of languages at Umutara Polytechnic University, Dr. Robert Mugisha for allegedly embezzling Rwf 10m.
