100 repatriated from the DRC

RUSIZI- The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), on Wednesday repatriated a group of 118 Rwandans from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).The group arrived in the country through Rusizi 1 border at around 1:50pm.

RUSIZI- The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), on Wednesday repatriated a group of 118 Rwandans from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The group arrived in the country through Rusizi 1 border at around 1:50pm.  

According to the Immigration officials at the border, the returnees were mostly made up of people who fled the country during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. They include 11 men, 63 children and 44 women.  

According to the officials, the returnees were living in; Shabunda, Masisi, Kalehe, Walikale, Uvira and Wulungu in the north-south Kivu.  

They are from different parts of the country.
From the border, they were driven to Nyagatare refugee transit camp in UNHCR vehicles, from where they would be transported to their former homes.  

Beatrice Ndabaruta, one of the returnees, said that she was pleased by the reception they received upon arrival, adding that more of their colleagues are preparing to return.
