RWAMAGANA- A man alleged to have conned several people out of their money has been arrested and detained at Rwamagana Police Station.

David Karisa, was apprehended last Friday, following a warrant of arrest issued against him.

"Karisa was picked by security men in plain clothes, after he sent a colleague to collect money from one of his victims. He fell into a trap,” said one his neighbors.

Security officials confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect had duped many people out of their money with empty promises of facilitating them to work in United Nations agencies in Darfur, Sudan.

"He was charging each individual Rwf 100,000. So depending on how many he had conned, he could have got millions out of the scam,” security authorities said.

Police added that another man who was working with Karisa was also apprehended.

According to security officials, the suspect claims to have been a teacher in a military school in Musanze District.

Speaking from the police station, however, the accused denied the allegations, describing them as malicious and baseless.
