FLAVIEN Ndamukunda and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma cited experience and good preparation as the reasons behind their triumph in Kenya.

The pair stunned the Mombassa crowd after lifting the men’s crown at the two-day Mombasa International Beach Volleyball Championships which climaxed on Sunday.

"It was a very competitive final against the Ugandan pair but we were ready for the challenge and always tried to put them on the back foot,” Ndakumunda, who plays for APR, said.

The Rwandan pair scooped the top prize of Rwf370.000 after seeing off the Ugandan duo of Johnson Kawenyera and Amon Ainebyona 21-19, 12-21, 15-13.

It was double joy for Ndamukunda as APR also stormed to their third successive league title the same day.

The military side, under the guidance of former club and national team captain Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye thrashed fallen giants Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) 3-1 to lift the title.

In the women’s fray, Kenyan pair of Eunice and Margaret Ndakala won after seeing off their counter-parts Viviane Akech and Sharon Pajije in straight sets.

The event which was sponsored by the Kenyan Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports attracted 19 teams from East and Central Africa.
