Another member of the family, Stanslas Mutangana, survived the Saturday night attack with injuries and was rushed to Munini Hospital.
Olivier Rubibi, the Busanze Sector Executive Secretary, said one suspect identified as Etienne Butera, the husband to the deceased Uwimana has been arrested in connection with the heinous crime.
He was arrested in the neighboring Burundi in Kayanza Province where he had fled, and plans to extradite him are being finalised.
"Though Butera denies responsibility for the death, we found him in Kayanza with his clothes blood stained and a machete which he could have used in the murder, he looked traumatized,” said Rubibi.
