Sulfo Rwanda industries a manufacturing, marketing, importation and trading industry has announced a 30 percent reduction in the prices of cooking gas.

According to Agaram Natarajan the Director of Finance and importation, the reduction in prices has been due to the import duties that have gone down.

"In the last few months, import duty on cooking gas has come down from 30 percent and it is now zero and this has prompted us to reduce prices for our customers,” said Natarajan.

Previously, a cylinder of gas would cost Rwf40,000 but now it goes for Rwf28,000 after all charges related to importation.

Sulfo, imports 36 tonnes of cooking gas per month from Kenya mainly for middle income earners.

"We target mainly middle income earners in urban areas who can afford this cooking gas,” added Natarajan.
Sulfo enjoys a market share of 30 percent although it is not the sole supplier of this product in the country.

The other players who supply the same product on the market include societe petroleum and Kobil petrol station.

In addition to gas prices, Sulfo has also reported a slight reduction in prices of soap which is a 5 percent decrease according to the official.
