Senior officials in the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC) have accused authorities in Rubavu and Ngororero districts of poorly managing the recent sacking of workers.

Recently, Rubavu district sacked 36 of its workers allegedly over low performance based on an internal evaluation.The victims appealed to the ministries of Local Government and Labour, claiming that the evaluation exercise was flawed.

The same incidence happened in Ngororero where 35 employees were sacked under similar circumstances.
According to Eugene Barikana, Permanent Secretary in MINALOC, the two districts were advised to reinstate the sacked officials.

"The Labour Ministry sent a team of experts to investigate claims by the sacked employees and in their report; they found the claims genuine and we advised the two districts to reinstate the employees,” Barikana said.

Available information from Ngororero indicates that all the employees sacked from the district were re-employed but Rubavu district remains defiant.

The Mayor of Rubavu, Pierre Twagirayezu said that reinstating the employees in now impossible.

"That is impossible and it can’t happen since the sacked employees have been replaced and recruitment is going on to fill other vacant offices, in my view, re-employing these people is not likely to happen,” Twagirayezu said.
