The Rwanda National Police has appointed a new spokesperson in a space of less than a year.

The new spokesperson Sup. Eric Kayiranga, who was appointed to replace Chief Superintendent John  Uwamungu over the weekend has been the coordinator of Rwanda National Focal Point on Small Arms (RNFP) and the Disaster Preparedness Unit.

John Uwamungu who came in early this year to replace Marcel Higiro has been moved to head the International Cooperation Department in the police.

According to the outgoing police spokesperson, the new appointments take immediate effect and it is the Commissioner General of Police who makes such internal appointments.

Kayiranga comes in at a time when the police has just announced a new campaign, in which they will partner with the general public in curbing crime.

Efforts to reach the new spokesperson were futile by press time as his phone was off.
