Uefa Cup-Group H results

Galatasaray 2-3 Helsingborg

Austria Wien 1-2 Bordeaux

Helsingborg IF increased their chances of qualifying from Group H as they turned on the style to defeat Galatasaray 3-2 in Thursday’s Uefa Cup.

The game billed as the 36-year-old strikers – Galatasaray’s Hakan Sukur and Helsingborg favorite Henrik Larsson, it was the Swede legend that enjoyed a memorable night as he set the visitors on their way with a 31st-minute opener.

Mali international Razak Omotoyossi doubled lead on 39, and Swedish striker Christopher Anderson scored what turned out to be a decisive third. DR Congo international striker Shabani Nonda notched a double for the home side.

However, Rwanda’s international midfielder, Olivier Karekezi could only watch his team’s important victory as an unused substitute. With the Swedish season over now, Helsingborg has finished eighth in the Allsvenskan league.

Their only way of ensuring a return to the UEFA Cup next season would be to win this year’s competition. Elsewhere in group H, FK Austria Wien suffered a blow as they lost 1-2 to French side Bordeaux.

Bordeaux leads group H with six points from two fixtures followed by Helsingborg in second with four points. Actions returns on November 28 as Helsingborg travel to Austria Wien while Bordeaux take on Greek side Panionios.
