Rwanda and Egypt on Thursday strengthened bilateral relations by signing 10 areas of cooperation.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minaffet, the signing took place at the end of the second session of the two countries’ Joint Commission meeting held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

Top on the list is a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on technological and industrial development, as well as an agreement of technical and economic cooperation.

Rwanda’s delegation at the four-day event was led by Foreign Minister, Rosemary Museminali, while the  Egyptians were led by her counterpart, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

"Both sides expressed satisfaction at the state of relations and cooperation between the two countries and stressed the importance of the Joint Commission as a platform for Egypt and Rwanda to review the progress of the relations,” reads the communiqué.

Both sides agreed to consult and discuss strategies on how best to enhance and strengthen their ties.

Two other Protocols of Cooperation were signed in the fields of science and technology, and health.

Egypt’s foreign ministry expressed readiness to support Minaffet, particularly in training and to consider helping the initiative by establishing an institute for diplomatic studies in Kigali.

The ministers also exchanged views over regional issues, particularly the situation in the Great Lakes Region and stressed an urgent need for progress in resolving these crises within the context of finding African solutions to African problems.

Museminali met members of the Egyptian business community and urged them to invest in Rwanda.
