Houseboy confesses to strangling her

Following days of investigations to identify the killers of Louise Numvirabagabo, police have arrested three people in connection with the gruesome murder.

Those arrested are Theogene Nsabimana, who had been working as a house help for the deceased up to the night of the murder, Evariste Ntawugashira and Evariste Ndayigiziye.

The incident took place on the night of September 4 at around 7:30pm in Ubumwe village, Remera in Gasabo district.

In an interview, the trio confessed to teaming up to commit the crime, singling out Nsabimana as the one who actually strangled and killed his then employer.

"Theogene came and tipped us that he knows where his boss had stashed Rwf 3m, that we should help him in stealing it, but just after we had entered the house he grabbed the deceased’s neck and strangled her to death,” revealed Ndayigiziye.

"We searched the whole house for the money but all we found was seven thousand, that’s when we realized that Theogene had actually killed the lady,” he added

After minutes of persistent denial of the crime, Nsabimana confessed to strangling his late boss, saying the original plan was to steal the money but due to panic he ended up killing her.

He had been working as the deceased’s house help for the last three months, but according to Jean Bosco Santime, the deceased’s husband, the suspect had never shown his identity card.

This happens after barely a month when a similar incident occurred in Rubavu where a houseboy was arrested for the suspected murder of three children after raping one of them.

Police spokesman Uwamungu said that most of the murder cases they have been receiving lately involved murders committed between married couples on grounds of wealth, adding that cases like these are a real eye-opener.

"People should first of all scrutinize and know the kind of people they are staying with or hiring for domestic work. If they come across any suspicious person, they should seek the police’s help,” he emphasized

Nunvirabagabo was married with children who live abroad.
