RUSIZI – Police in Kamembe sector, Rusizi District are holding a man who allegedly defiled a ten-year old girl.
Alexis Ngabonziza, 35, is alleged to have defiled the ten year old girl, last Friday at his home.

Ngabonziza, was arrested on Monday after police got a tip off from his wife.

"His wife reported the matter to us (police) over the weekend, after she found her ten-year old niece crying and bleeding profusely in her private parts,” police said.

The suspect’s wife said that they took the girl for a medical check up whose results indicated that she had been raped.
She added that the girl could have been infected because the couple is HIV positive.

Speaking from the police station, Ngabonziza admitted to the crime.

"I know that I committed a serious crime but I ask for forgiveness from Rwandans and my wife’s parents in particular.”

The suspect faces between 20 and 25 years in jail if convicted.
