On Thursday, November 8, a security meeting chaired by Provincial Governor Fidele Ndayisaba resolved to intensify the campaign to protect people through conducting night patrols, timely sharing of information and involving the local people in providing for their security.

The meeting that was attended by the deputy Commissioner General of Police Mary Gahonzire looked at the general security situation in the province with a bias on the security of Genocide survivors and that of Gacaca witnesses.

Governor Fidele Ndayisaba asked local leaders to make it clear to the people they lead that they will all be answerable for any killing that happens in their areas.

"Local people and leaders alike should be aware that they will suffer equally the consequences of threats on the life of any person in a particular area,” warned Governor Ndayisaba. He asked local leaders to always be proactive in their plans to protect people so that lives are saved.

Mary Gahonzire urged local leaders to work as a team so as to achieve a collective goal, which is the welfare of the people they lead.
