Rwanda bonded warehouses (Magerwa) is in negotiations with MONUC to use its under utilised Rwf1.3 billion warehouses in Rusizi district, western province.
The two warehouses were constructed in 2006 to serve the business community in the western part of Rwanda by handling cargo from Kanombe airport.
Management of Magerwa says that the warehouses have not been fully utilised as many local business operators in that region have been affected by the credit crunch in the local banking system.
Lambert E. Nyoni, the Managing Director of Magerwa said the company has entered into negotiations with MONUC to keep their cargo in the 380sqm warehouse at Kamembe airport
"Business volumes for local business operators reduced and the warehouses have been under-utilised,” he said.
Nyoni said MONUC normally keeps the cargo in transit to Democratic Republic of Congo.
The two facilities also include the 1520sqm warehouse in Mutara, Rusizi district which was rented by an investor who transports goods to DR. Congo.
According to Nyoni, Magerwa intends to enforce the capacity in marketing if they are to have their warehouses utilised to the maximum.
