RWAMAGANA - Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) soldiers at the weekend embarked on classroom construction in Kigabiro Sector in Rwamagana District, in support of the Nine Year Basic Education programme.
Over 127 classrooms are needed in the district, of which the soldiers will build six.
"We expect to construct more than six classrooms in this place. It is our responsibility like any other Rwandans to participate in nation building.
It is a moral obligation which every citizen should have,” said Major Evarist Kabalisa, the deputy commander 405th Battalion based in Rwamagana and Kayonza.
Residents commended the uniformed personnel for joining them in the construction of schools.
"We had seen the same soldiers in various activities during the army week. The support they are extending to us is a big boost to the construction programme of class rooms in schools,” said Charles Karemera, a resident.
Authorities say there is great need to speed up the construction of classrooms before the start of the next academic year.
Meanwhile, addressing residents after the day’s activity, the sector authorities urged them to put more effort in the construction process.
"I have no doubt that the classes will be finished on time. I do not have words well enough to thank the RDF for their contribution to the whole activity,” said Evariste Banzubaze, the headmaster of Rwamagana Secondary School.
