Rugamba Jack a.k.a Jack B is referred to as the king of the break dance in the country due to his energetic and Michael Jackson-like performances on stage.
Jack B was born twenty three years ago in Kigali where he grew up before moving to Musanze, Northern Province for high school at Ecole Secondaire Islamic du Ruhengeri (ESIR).
Jack B started music at an early age of eight. He was in love with Michael Jackson’s music and could imitate his dance strokes. He would also dance for his friends and perform at birthday parties.
He got a lot of encouragement from his friends and elder brothers and sisters and this is when he decided to pursue music.
At fourteen, he joined the Bad Boys Crew which was based in Nyamirambo. In the 90s, this group was immensely popular among the teens. It was composed of secondary school students that used to dance to play-back songs in concerts during school holidays.
Jack B, apart from being the youngest was also one of the most popular dancers in the crew.
In 2004, the Bad Boy Crew ceased to be due to financial difficulties and many of its members leaving in search of greener pastures in Europe.
Jack B decided to go solo in his music and to concentrate more on his studies.
But in 2006, alongside Kassanova, Tata, Spikey and former members of the Bad Boy Crew and Cool Family Crew, Jack B formed the Phantoms Crew.
It was with the Phantoms Crew that Jack B hooked up with Sly B and released his first single ‘Urihe’ in 2008. It enjoyed instant success.
He has now released two more singles ‘Humura’ and ‘Ni Wowe’. He is currently working with Kilulu 9 productions on an album that he says will be released in March next year.
Aside from his stage performances, he trains young girls and boys to dance and they in turn perform with other artists.
Jack B’s plans to go international and with the support of Kassanova who is now in Canada, renew the Phantoms Crew.
He extends a passionate appeal to Rwandans especially the corporate to support the local artists and the local music industry. He says that unlike what people say, there is talent in Rwanda and that it only needs to be nurtured.
Apart from music, Jack B loves football and is a firm supporter of England’s Arsenal football club.
Lyrics to ‘Urihe?’:
VERSE 1:
Igitondo kimwe
Narabyutse nsanga

Muri iyo minota namasaha

Utemba itoto ritushye

Je te cherche mais je te vais pas
